These standards are regulated by ISTE, the International Society for Technology in Education.
As an educator, I believe in lifelong learning. Standards that are most relevant to my growth as a teacher can be found in both the NBPTS and NET-S. Reflection and professional learning are ways I can grow as an teacher. I believe I can grow as an educator by continuing to reflect on my own teaching. Proposition 4 includes teachers thinking systematically about their practice and learning from experience. I believe it is important to reflect daily, weekly and yearly, as there is always room for improvement in every classroom. I also believe in the importance of formative assessments. Proposition 3 relates to this theme, as teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning. Monitoring student learning is very important. I think the biggest thing with assessments would be using the data to drive and differentiate instruction. This is one thing I am continuously working on doing. I want each child to be challenged and I try to use assessment data to make sure each child's individual needs are being met.
Many standards in the NBPTS seem to align with standards in the NET-S.
Standard 1 from each of the standards align with each other. Teachers are committed to students and their learning. If teachers are committed to their students and their learning, they must get to know each child and how they learn. Through this they will be able to facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity.
Propositions 2 and 3 from the NBPTS are similar to standard 2 of the NET-S.
- Proposition 2: Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students.
- Proposition 3: Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning.
- Standard 2 from the NET-S: Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments.
Teachers need to know the subjects they teach so that they can design learning experiences and assessments to meet the needs of each child. They then can monitor student learning and then repeat the cycle.
Standards 5 of the NBPTS and NET-S go hand in hand as well as they both involve professional learning.
Teachers should engage in professional growth and leadership. Through this they are members of learning communities.
I did not find there to be any conflicting ideas, I think the standards are related to each other in many ways.
